Tips for what to do during your stopover in Qatar, regardless of the length
Congratulations if you've managed to book your flight with a nice 2 hours or less stopover. This will leave you enough time to wander around the airport, do a little bit of shopping, have a small meal at one of the few restaurants and then make your way to your gate. Qatar Airways likes you to be at your gate 1 hour before departure.
Hamad International Airport has 2 very reasonably priced lounges that you can access regardless of your airline or class of travel:
Oryx Lounge - Priced at QAR200 for up to 6 hours this is a great option when you could spend over half that just on a meal and a drink at one of the airport restaurants. Oryx Lounge has a buffet spread as well as full beverage service, comfortable seating and a games room.
Al Maha Services Lounge - Again, priced at QAR200 for up to 6 hours, this lounge is slightly smaller in size and has a smaller offering in terms of food and beverages, but offers nicer shower facilities which can help to make you feel fresh.
Guests travelling on Qatar Airways, can also access the more expensive, but definitely more premium Al Mourjan Business Lounge - Priced at QAR450 this lounge offers a full buffet of both western and arabic food, a-la-cart sandwich style menu, a full bar, including cocktails and French Champagne, as well as showers and plenty of space.

Discover Qatar offers a 3 hour city tour that departs from the airport. At just QAR75 per person this is a great way to see Doha and also stay fresh between flights. The tour must be booked at least 48 hours in advance and they run 6 times per day.
If you'd like to see the city, but don't feel like taking a tour, Qatar offers a free visa on arrival for most countries and you can leave to the airport to see the city your own way. The airport is only around 15 minutes from old town and Taxis and Ubers are safe, affordable and readily available.
Another great offer from Discover Qatar is the Qatar Stopover offer. It's available to anyone with a stopover of more than 12 hours and allows you to stay in a 4 or 5-star hotel for only USD$23. It needs to be booked 3 days in advance and regardless of your arrival time, it allows you to stay for up to 24 hours. You will need to organise your own transfers, but Ubers and Taxis are very safe in Qatar. Our favourite hotel on offer is the Grand Hyatt Doha which has it's own beach, is set on lush gardens and is close to the Pearl for sight seeing.
